Android MIDI\USB Connection Support

Simply Piano

As you make progress with your learning in Simply Piano, you will play many notes at the same time.

If you have a MIDI or USB supporting keyboard, you might want to consider connecting your keyboard directly to your Android device for an even better note recognition experience. (Supported for Android 5.0 and up).

 

When should I use MIDI\USB Connection?

If you are experiencing issues with acoustic recognition engine, connecting your device to the keyboard directly with its MIDI\USB cable is a great way to achieve 100% note recognition accuracy.

It will help you bypass the following issues that might be interfering with the acoustic recognition:

Overview

1. If your piano is out of tune.

2If you have a damaged or poor microphone on your Android device.

3. If your surroundings are very noisy and loud they could interfere with the acoustic recognition engine.

4. If your keyboard’s speakers are weak or very low on the maximum volume.

 

How do I know if my keyboard supports MIDI\USB?

If you are not sure whether your keyboard supports USB or MIDI, look at the back of your keyboard and try locating one of these ports.

Keep in mind that some keyboards have both USB and MIDI Ports so you can choose which one to use.

For USB Supporting Keyboard

Steps

  1. Connect your Keyboard to the USB cable (type B MALE SIDE)
     
  2. Connect the USB  Cable (TYPE A MALE USB side) to the  Micro USB or USB C Adapter.

  3. Before playing a song, connect the Micro USB or USB C Adapter to your Android Device

    Simply Piano will immediately recognize a MIDI connection and you will see a notification that a MIDI connection has been established.

Steps:

  1. Connect your Keyboard to the MIDI to USB Converter Cable. (please make sure you connect the MIDI OUT cable to the MIDI IN port on the keyboard, and the MIDI IN Cable to the MIDI OUT port.)

  2. Connect the MIDI to USB Converter Cable (TYPE A MALE USB side) to the Micro USB or USB C Adapter.
     
  3. Before playing a song, Connect the Micro USB or USB C Adapter to your Android Device

  4. Simply Piano will immediately recognize a MIDI connection and you will see a notification indication that a MIDI connection has been established.

For MIDI Supporting Keyboard

Troubleshooting:

  1. Please ensure you have Android 6.0 and up.
     
  2. Controlling MIDI Volume: In the app settings you can control the MIDI volume, or even completely turn it off if you prefer to use the keyboard MIDI sounds instead of the app MIDI sounds.
